Halstead's Achievement Benefits Local Charity

The Pas, Manitoba - Tolko Industries Ltd. awarded Roxanne Halstead of The Pas, Manitoba, $5,000 to donate to a charity of her choice. The Tolko Manitoba Kraft Papers employee selected Breanne Hanson Memorial Bike Ride to receive the funds.

Halstead was awarded the cheque-for-charity when her name was drawn from a pool of twelve employees attending a Company function at Silver Star Ski Resort in Vernon, British Columbia. The employees and their families were guests of Tolko at the annual Employee Recognition Banquet in February. Each Tolko Division had selected one employee who they felt best demonstrated the Company’s values: respect, progressiveness, open communication, integrity, and profitability.

“Roxanne Halstead was nominated by her fellow employees for her enthusiasm, leadership initiative, and continuous improvement efforts,” said Greg Wazny, General Manager of Tolko’s Manitoba Kraft Papers Division. “Congratulations, Roxanne, on a job well done.”

Halstead was surprised to win the award. “I was thrilled,” said Halstead, a Tolko employee for the past fifteen years. Halstead has held a variety of positions with the organization before ascending to her current position, Sales Accounting Team Leader.

“Tolko is a company that believes in promoting from within,” said Halstead. “Depending on a person’s aspirations, you can go as far as you want.”

For the past ten years, the Breanne Hanson Memorial Bike Ride has provided financial assistance to families of children in life threatening situations. A group of Correctional Officers from The Pas Correctional Centre take part in an annual long-distance bicycle ride as the organization’s main fundraiser. On the last day of the ride, the community is invited to join the riders with their pledges and bikes at Springwater, a way-side park 70 kms. south of The Pas.
