Tolko’s new press is world leader
Slave Lake, Alberta – Tolko Industries Ltd. (Tolko) announced today that the press chosen for its
new Engineered Wood Products (EWP) facility in Slave Lake, Alberta, is a worldwide leader in its
class of technology.
At 70.3 metres, this is longer than any continuous press in the world. It will be capable of
producing the equivalent of over 825 million square feet per year (3/8" basis) of 7/16" oriented
strand board (OSB).
“We decided on a continuous press for its production flexibility, which supports our value-added
strategy,” said Erik Munck, Tolko’s Engineering Manager for the project. Munck explained that the
system’s forming and press line will allow Tolko to produce high-quality structural engineered
wood products in virtually any length and resin combination, and in a wide variety of thicknesses.
“Tolko chose to partner with Siempelkamp due to their excellent experience with, and quality of,
continuous presses for OSB production,” Munck added. “Their track record assures us that their
product and support will help us reach our goals as we take on the future of Engineered Wood
Products (EWP).” Tolko announced the $200+ million EWP project in June 2005 and anticipates
construction to begin in spring 2006, subject to government approvals.
"Siempelkamp is proud to supply the forming and press line for Tolko's new plant at Slave Lake,”
said Dr. Hans Fechner, President and CEO of Siempelkamp. “This line will provide the shortest
possible cure times and fastest line speeds in what will be the longest continuous press
worldwide. We look forward to seeing the first board made, a fast ramp-up of the line, and a
successful partnership with Tolko."
Siempelkamp's North American headquarters are in Marietta, Georgia with a Canadian office in
Cambridge, Ontario. The Siempelkamp group of companies is an organization with a 120-year
history of excellence in metal forming, industrial automation, and building particle

2,200 employees and total sales exceeding US$500M.
