Site selected for Tolko’s Engineered Wood Products facility
Slave Lake, Alberta – Tolko Industries Ltd. (Tolko) announced today that they have selected
the proposed site for their new Engineered Wood Products (EWP) facility. The location
chosen is approximately five kilometers east of Tolko’s existing Slave Lake OSB plant. Final
selection is subject to approval by the Alberta government.
Dave Knight, Tolko’s Regional Woodlands Manager, says that approval was received from
Alberta Sustainable Resource Development to clear the proposed site to allow the
engineers to begin their preliminary survey work. “As a result of this work, additional clearing
will likely be necessary to accommodate the needs identified during the preliminary survey. We are preparing the site so we can move to the next stage of development once we
receive approval.” Dave added, “It’s important to note, however, that if we don’t receive
approval from the Alberta government we will restore the site to its natural state.”
“Planning is also underway to host public information sessions,” says Dave. “A series of
displays will depict the various stages of the project, Tolko’s sustainable forest management
activities, future employment opportunities, and the company’s commitment to Northern
Alberta. As well, Tolko representatives will be on hand to answer questions.” Watch your
local paper for details of these information sessions.
