Tolko supports proposed settlement
of softwood lumber dispute
Vernon, BC – While this weekend’s proposed
settlement is not the long-term result Tolko was seeking, the Company
is supportive of finalizing the agreement.
“Ratification of the agreement will provide
us with the freedom to operate our business while we work with the
provincial and federal governments to adopt forest policies that
will lead toward free trade with the United States,” said
Mike Harkies, General Manager, BC Operations. “We are supportive
of the policy reforms the provincial government has already instituted
and we are hopeful that further reforms will benefit all Canadians
as we eliminate barriers to trade peace with the Americans.”
Tolko Industries is a privately owned forest products
company with nine manufacturing operations in British Columbia,
Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The Company employs over 2300
people and manufactures lumber, panel products and kraft paper.
