New Tolko I-Joist plant to be near Edmonton
Engineered wood project moves forward in Alberta

Edmonton, AB - Tolko Industries Ltd. announced today that it will build its new I-Joist plant near Edmonton, Alberta. The $35 million project will be located in Sturgeon County.

“This I-Joist plant will secure Tolko’s place in the engineered wood industry and deepen our commitment to growth in this province,” said Brad Thorlakson, President of Tolko Marketing and Sales Ltd. “It is a direction that our customers have asked us to take and we are pleased to respond.”

Contracts have been awarded for site engineering and the building structure. Site preparation is expected to begin early spring 2007 with first production planned for late 2007.

In addition to constructing wood I-joists, the plant will cut and package oriented strand lumber to be produced at Tolko’s Athabasca Division, a $250 million project under construction near Slave Lake. The new Edmonton area facility will also be capable of shipping mixed loads of engineered wood products.

“We are excited to be moving forward with this next phase of Tolko’s value-added strategy in Alberta,” added Thorlakson. In addition to constructing Athabasca Division, Tolko is planning upgrades to its current Slave Lake oriented strand board (OSB) mill. Within Alberta the company also has an OSB mill in High Prairie and a lumber mill in High Level.
