Presidents
Safety Award presented to Lavington Division
Vernon, BC - Tolko Industries announced today
that its Lavington Planer Division is the recipient of the Presidents
Safety Award for the second consecutive year. Employees at the
Division completed 2001 with no lost-time accidents. The Division
has won the award eight times out of the twelve years it has been
presented.
Don Banks, Plant Manager at Lavington, says winning the award
for the second time is an achievement he is extremely proud of.
"Much of the credit for receiving the award goes to the employees,
who make a conscious choice to work safely each day.
In order to select a winner, each of Tolkos nine Business
Units are evaluated based on several factors. These include accident
frequency, severity and a safety audit. The safety audit encompasses
overall safety attitude, effectiveness of the Safety Committee,
accident investigation and follow-up procedures and the commitment
of all the Business Units employees to a safe working environment.
The Presidents Safety Award consists of an engraved award,
posters for display throughout the plant and a Presidents
Safety Award gift, which is presented to every employee by Al
Thorlakson, Tolkos President & CEO.
Don concluded, "Tolko is committed to safety and places a
priority on maintaining a safe work environment for all people
involved with the company. It is gratifying to receive this tangible
recognition of our Divisions accomplishment."
