Winnipeg, MB and Prince George, BC – Tolko Marketing and Sales Ltd. and Canadian Forest Products Ltd. (Canfor) announced today they have entered into an agreement to form a jointly owned sales and marketing partnership. The new company will be called Premium 1 Papers and will market bleached and unbleached kraft paper products from Canfor’s Prince George, BC mill and Tolko’s Kraft Papers mill in The Pas, MB. Currently, this represents approximately 199,100 metric tonnes of unbleached kraft paper and 88,000 metric tonnes bleached kraft paper for markets primarily in North America.

Premium 1 Papers will be located in Kelowna, BC at 820 Guy Street and will be led by General Manager, Ron Regan. A number of existing sales and support staff from both Tolko and Canfor will also join Premium 1 Papers.

“This partnership is an opportunity for both companies to become more competitive in an industry that is seeing a significant amount of global consolidation,” said Regan. “It is also an opportunity to combine our sales and service resources to provide enhanced service and supply our customers with a full range of products and one stop shopping.”

Tolko’s eighteen manufacturing Divisions throughout Western Canada produce lumber, specialty kraft papers, and engineered wood products for world markets.
