Tolko Meets the Community of Slave
Lake
Edmonton, Alberta – Officials from Tolko were
in Edmonton on March 10, 2004 to meet with government. Al Thorlakson,
Tolko’s President & CEO says, “With our recent purchase
of the Slave Lake OSB mill our investment in Alberta is larger than
in any of the other three western provinces where we have operations.
Rick Huff, Tolko’s General Manager OSB & Kraft Papers,
went on to say that Alberta will be the focus of Tolko’s growth
for the next 2-3 years. “Over the next six months we will
be looking at a number of strategic options to modernize and expand
our facilities at High Prairie, Slave Lake and High Level. We’ve
been working with the Alberta Research Council over the last few
years on proprietary projects utilizing new technology, and we’re
hopeful that our modernization and expansion plans will provide
us with an opportunity to commercialize some of this technology.”
In Alberta, Tolko provides direct employment for over 630 people
in its manufacturing facilities. During peak harvesting season this
number increases to over 1800. The Company contributes approximately
$87 million to the province in direct and indirect wages, and provincial
and municipal taxes.
