Tolko Solidifies Commitment to Northern
Alberta
Vernon, BC – On February 27, 2004, Tolko Industries
Ltd. and Weyerhaeuser Company finalized the sale of Weyerhaeuser’s
Slave Lake, Alberta OSB mill to Tolko. The completion of the sale
adds a third OSB mill to Tolko’s list of assets, which also
include 5 lumber mills, 1 plywood plant and 1 kraft papers mill.
This latest addition further solidifies Tolko’s
commitment to the Northern Alberta economy and the rural communities
that support the Company’s activities. The local communities
are integral to the success of the operation, and as in High Prairie
and High Level, the Company is looking to establish partnerships
with local stakeholders in the area to ensure the viability of the
business and the economic vitality of the region. Rick Huff, Tolko’s
General Manager, OSB & Kraft Papers, says the decision to purchase
the Slave Lake facility was not a difficult one. “The Government
of Alberta has created such a positive business climate. This facility
is a strategic fit with our other divisions and we are working on
some modernization plans for our Alberta operations. We are optimistic
and excited about what the future will bring.”
