Tolko Meets the Community of Slave Lake

Slave Lake, AB – Employees and local community leaders had the opportunity to meet with the newest employer in town, Tolko Industries Ltd. this week as company representatives came from Vernon, BC to introduce themselves. The sale of the former Weyerhaeuser mill to Tolko completed on February 27th and Tolko didn’t want to waste any time making people feel at ease with the change in ownership. Tolko’s President and CEO, Al Thorlakson spoke directly to the employees, their families and to many community leaders during his 2-day stay in Slave Lake. “We wanted to come and meet with employees at our newest Division and give them an opportunity to ask any questions they might have.”

Crew talks were held Monday and Tuesday where employees had the chance to meet Thorlakson and other company officials. Employees and their families were invited to a casual social evening on Monday while local community and business leaders attended a similar social on Tuesday evening.

Rick Huff, Tolko’s General Manager OSB & Kraft Papers, says that over the next three to six months, the Company will be looking at a number of options to maximize the value of the Slave Lake facility, and fully utilize available timber supplies. These modernization options will then be presented to Tolko’s Board of Directors. The priority right now is business as usual until they have a thorough understanding of the Slave Lake Mill and its potential.
