Tolko Sponsors Frederick R. McDonald
Art Exhibit at Vernon Art Gallery
Vernon, BC – Tolko Industries Ltd. is proud
to be a sponsor of a 5-week aboriginal art exhibit at the Vernon
Art Gallery. One of the featured artists is Frederick R. McDonald,
a Woodland Cree from Ft. McMurray, Alberta. McDonald, now a resident
of Calgary, specializes in the flat medium with a characteristic
flair for colour. According to Sheila Catlin, Tolko’s Manager
of Communications and Public Relations, “This is a wonderful
opportunity for Tolko to support our local community in Vernon,
but also to show our support for Aboriginal initiatives. We work
very closely with First Nations in all of our operating areas and
are proud to help showcase talent of this magnitude.”
McDonald’s work will be exhibited at the Vernon Art Gallery
until March 27, 2004. There will be an evening reception on Saturday,
March 6th beginning at 7 pm. McDonald has also published a book
based on his Masters thesis, completed at the University of Calgary
titled: Ancestral Portraits: The Colour of My People which is available
at the art gallery, book stores and on line.
