Partnership celebrates grand opening
Meadow Lake, SK – Grand opening celebrations
were held on Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30 to officially celebrate
the opening of Meadow Lake OSB Limited Partnership’s (the
Partnership) Oriented Strand Board (OSB) mill near Meadow Lake,
SK.
Ricardo Hillmann, Plant Manager, says the celebrations
were an opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of an outstanding
group of contractors, suppliers and employees. “This has been
a successful project from the outset and this accomplishment is
due in large part to the commitment and attitude of all team members.
We are also extremely proud of our safety record as we completed
over 800,000 person hours of work with no lost time accidents.”
The celebration began on Saturday with a ribbon cutting
ceremony, tours of the OSB mill and a dinner. On Sunday, employees
and members of the community joined the team for a barbecue and
guided tours of the plant.
The Honourable Lorne Calvert, Premier of Saskatchewan,
The Honourable Maynard Sonntag, MLA for Meadow Lake and Minister
of Aboriginal Affairs & Highways & Transportation, and John
Thorlakson, President of the Partnership and Tolko’s Vice-President
and General Manager of Specialty Projects, welcomed the guests and
participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
Meadow Lake OSB’s operations began on August
21, 2003 when the first board was produced at 11:00 am. The mill
operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week and provides direct
and indirect employment for over 250 people. The plant’s annual
production is 600 million square feet (3/8” basis).
The Partnership includes Northwest Communities Holdings
Ltd., Tolko Industries Ltd., Meadow Lake Tribal Council Resource
Development Inc., and Investment Saskatchewan.
