Partnership celebrates grand opening

Meadow Lake, SK – Grand opening celebrations were held on Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30 to officially celebrate the opening of Meadow Lake OSB Limited Partnership’s (the Partnership) Oriented Strand Board (OSB) mill near Meadow Lake, SK.

Ricardo Hillmann, Plant Manager, says the celebrations were an opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of an outstanding group of contractors, suppliers and employees. “This has been a successful project from the outset and this accomplishment is due in large part to the commitment and attitude of all team members. We are also extremely proud of our safety record as we completed over 800,000 person hours of work with no lost time accidents.”

The celebration began on Saturday with a ribbon cutting ceremony, tours of the OSB mill and a dinner. On Sunday, employees and members of the community joined the team for a barbecue and guided tours of the plant.

The Honourable Lorne Calvert, Premier of Saskatchewan, The Honourable Maynard Sonntag, MLA for Meadow Lake and Minister of Aboriginal Affairs & Highways & Transportation, and John Thorlakson, President of the Partnership and Tolko’s Vice-President and General Manager of Specialty Projects, welcomed the guests and participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday afternoon.

Meadow Lake OSB’s operations began on August 21, 2003 when the first board was produced at 11:00 am. The mill operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week and provides direct and indirect employment for over 250 people. The plant’s annual production is 600 million square feet (3/8” basis).

The Partnership includes Northwest Communities Holdings Ltd., Tolko Industries Ltd., Meadow Lake Tribal Council Resource Development Inc., and Investment Saskatchewan.
