Tolko's
Board of Directors meets in The Pas
The Pas, Manitoba - As part of its commitment
to the communities in which it operates, Tolkos Board of
Directors is once again holding its fall Board of Directors meeting
in The Pas.
"The last time we held a Board meeting in The Pas was in
September, 1999," says Al Thorlakson, President & CEO
of Tolko. "Some of our board members dont have an opportunity
to visit The Pas on a regular basis, so this meeting provides
them with a chance to see firsthand the extent of our capital
investments in these Business Units."
Over the past five years Tolko has invested over $125 million
in its Solid Wood and Kraft Papers operations. Some of these capital
investments include a $72 million sawmill upgrade and a $10.7
million co-generation project at Kraft Papers.
In conjunction with the formal Board of Directors meeting, a social
gathering will be held September 25 to recognize the contributions
of the Manitoba Forest Resource Advisory Committee (FRAC). Blair
Sullivan, Tolkos Woodlands Manager in The Pas, says the
FRAC members make a valuable contribution. "FRAC is made
up of many different stakeholders and they come to the meetings
prepared to voice their opinions and provide us with their input.
Im pleased the Board is recognizing their participation."
At the social the Board members will also have an opportunity
to acknowledge the recent safety milestone achieved by the Kraft
Papers employees. On September 3, 2002 they reached 500,000+ hours
worked without a time loss accident.
