Tolko employees give generously
to North Thompson Relief Fund
Kamloops, BC – Vern Parkstrom, Tolko’s
Louis Creek Area Manager, presented a cheque to the North Thompson
Relief Fund today in the amount of $72,008.00. “Employees
at other Tolko Divisions wanted to do something to help their fellow
employees and Tolko committed to match whatever they raised, “
says Vern. Donations from contractors, other communities and suppliers
were also included in the cheque.
Vern says he is overwhelmed with the kindness that
people in other communities have shown. “Our employees at
our other operations contributed over $32,000.00 to the relief fund.
On behalf of Tolko, I’d like to express my thanks to these
employees who gave so generously.”
Company officials continue to analyze opportunities
to replace the capacity that was lost by the destruction of the
Louis Creek mill. “Our decision has been complicated by a
number of external factors,” says Vern. “The Canada-US
trade dispute, a strengthening Canadian dollar and the need to achieve
global competitiveness are only some of the external factors that
we must take into consideration as we examine our options.”
